Matcha Fondue at Nishiki Ichiha

Was planning where to go in between Teramachi Street area and to Higashiyama for late noon Ikebana class.

Flipping through mags and found out one to be around Nishiki Market which definitely offers something different. A Matcha Fondue presented in a beautiful wooden tiered box.

I am not a fan of Chocolate Fondue, maybe cause I am not a fan of Chocolate as to speak; but for this one, I gotta try it!

It was also my first time to the crowded Nishiki Market; this market is famous for its fresh daily produce on sale and some food souvenirs for tourists. The walking path is so narrow and packed with tourist walking in group taking photos.

But Nishiki Ichiha is located near the junction of Nishiki and Teramachi Street. The front shop is selling their matcha products and various flavoured popcorn. The only signage to let you know there is a matcha cafe is the displayed menu on right hand side of entrance.

It is a small space with counter seats and against the wall tables; they do have a small private room and tatami seat facing the small garden and pond.

To my surprise, they have Houjicha (Roasted Green Tea) Fondue which is my fave green tea flavour. The fondue was beautifully presented in this tiered wooden box; all the items were immaculately well presented…

Wish I can buy the box.

The Houjicha Fondue was mixed with melted chocolate which I guessed to help with the thickening and stickiness consistency but the houjicha taste was still stronger than the chocolate.

This fondue concept is a combination of modern and traditional dessert; slightly different than the regular dessert cafe. Beside this Fondue, they have another signature dessert which is a Matcha Flavoured Popcorn Parfait…
