Yuba-oke at Shozanku Matsuyama Isetan Kyoto

I was looking for one of the vegetarian restaurant that is located at Isetan Kyoto located at JR Kyoto Station but I just realised, the upper floors for F&B area was Huge and before 12 pm, patrons had streamed steadily to this floor and most of restaurants were occupied. I felt as if Saturday is a Dining Day Out…

Found Shozanku Matsuyama in the corner with traditional looking entrance; after looking at the menu, found that they are specialised in Yuba-oke, another dish that identify with Kyoto cuisine.

Yuba-oke is a type of beancurd skin that often appear in Asian cuisine; but what we have in Kyoto here is quite special with emphasise on the beancurd skin.

Wasn’t sure I was able to finish all dishes when looking at Miyako Bento as it has additional Yuba-oke soup; but the waiting staff did suggest me to try it so I gave it a try.

Though it looked a lot, as what refined kaiseki meal is, it fulfil your hunger just nicely. Why? Because most of the dishes in kaiseki style is prepared in healthier cooking method and it being provisioned as just right exact portion.

If you are in Kyoto JR station, do visit Isetan Department Store and going up to its 11th floor to try Yuba-oke, another specialty of Kyoto.
